The art scene is Moscow is currently thriving and many excellent art galleries are located around the city. Amongst the best worth visiting, the Moscow Modern Art Museum (Muzei Sovremennogo Iskusstva) can be found within the Boulevard Ring and specialises in 20th-century contemporary works and post-modernist paintings. Many famous artists are represented here amongst the 1,500 art works, with favourites including Birstein, Chagall, Konchalovsky, Picasso and Steinberg.

A series of well-lit galleries await within the Moscow Sculpture House (Moskovskii Dom Skul'ptury) on the Pervyi Spasonalivkovskii Pereulok within the Garden Ring. Each month, this gallery holds a number of exhibitions, with paintings, sculptures and ceramics in all shapes and sizes.




One of the most noteworthy art galleries in the whole of Russia can be found on the southern side of Moscow, within the Central House of Artists (Tsentral'nyi Dom Khudozhnikov). Every year well over half a million people visit this premier exhibition space of some 10,000 square metres / 107,650 square feet.

Highlights include Soviet art from the 20th-century and paintings by acclaimed artists such as Giorgio Morandi and Salvador Dali. Other notable Moscow art galleries include the Galereia Elisium, Gertsev Art Gallery and also the Soiuz Tvorchestvo, where around 50 artists exhibit their works each year, with its fortnightly exhibitions. Don't miss the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum, which is most famous for its many impressionist paintings and European works.
